Certificate IV in Fitness - Personal Trainer Qualification

Personal Trainer Qualification

How to make it to the top in the fitness industry!

Getting Started as a Personal Trainer

To become a Personal Trainer you first need to do the Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instructor) course.

Your comprehensive Personal Training course covers everything you need to get started and succeed long term in the fitness industry. You will finish our course with not only what you need to know but most importantly how to clearly communicate what you know. It can be studied full time or part time to suit your lifestyle.

Here’s what’s covered in our Certificate IV in Fitness Course:

  • Advanced Resistance Training - you will learn 50 Resistance Training exercises not taught at Certificate III. This new array of exercises means that you will have a toolkit of exercises suitable for beginners through to advanced clients.
  • Tools of the Trade – become competent in the use of a range of training tools that are “outside the box”. Some of these tools include Swiss Balls, Air Rollers, Dura Discs, Gymsticks, and BOSU equipment.
  • Advanced Exercise Programming – examines Periodisation, Interval Training, a look at current programming trends and the importance of Recovery from exercise sessions to avoid the negative effects of over training. We also look at the different considerations you would use for Older Adults, Children, Obese, and Pregnant clients.
  • Boxing Skills – former Commonwealth Champion boxer Mick O’Malley will show you how to safely deliver a large range of focus mitt boxing drills and skills which will give the client a great workout that is different from their typical gym session.
  • PNF Stretching - one of the best ways to offer value and differentiate yourself from other Personal Trainers is to offer PNF partner stretching. You will learn over 30 different ways to use this fantastic stretching method with clients.
  • Nutrition and Weight Management - takes the guess work out of eating right. It teaches you exactly what to eat and importantly when to eat it. The information provided is based on supplying the body with the perfect balance on Proteins, Fats, and Carbohydrates your clients need to achieve their ultimate sporting or body composition potential.
  • Fitness for Special Requirements – you will learn how to do a posture assessment with your clients and importantly how to interpret this information. You can then prescribe an exercise program to correct any issues you discover. In addition we look at the most common injuries associated with active people and what corrective exercises will work best for them.
  • The Business of Personal Training – being the most technically skilled Personal Trainer in the world does not guarantee a good income, if you cannot promote your services or have a conversation about money with a potential client! Aaron Whear, the fitness trainer’s business trainer, will show you how to get and keep clients so that you can make the income you want to make, and choose the hours you want to work.
  • Legal Issues - what would you if someone is injured in one of your training sessions? What legislation do you need to be aware of? What exactly does a “duty of care” to my client actually mean? These topics as well as many others are addressed. This means you will know exactly what to do should any of these situations arise in one of your Personal Training sessions.
  • Motivational Psychology - this is a hugely important section of the course where we have one of Australia’s leading sports psychologists in Jacqui Louder present her unique insights on the importance of practical goal setting. You will learn how to get your clients to take ownership of their goals and dramatically increase their chances of achieving them. The strategies given are very practical and have worked for Olympic Athletes, AFL Footballers, through to beginners who just want to lose a few kilos.

Personal Training Course Philosophy

The underlying philosophy behind everything we do in our Personal Training course is related to points of difference i.e. what to include in your client’s workout that is different from their normal gym routine? It is critical that you can answer this question because clients pay far more money for a Personal Training session than they do for their gym membership. Therefore, in order to keep clients long terms you must give them an experience in your Personal Training sessions that they cannot do on their own in order to justify their investment in you.

Venues

As these courses are “hands on” they involve both classroom and practical activities. Classroom sessions are scheduled at the CAE Centre, 253 Flinders Lane Melbourne, and the practical sessions at Richmond Recreation Centre, Gleadell Street, Richmond (where you will have exclusive use of the gymnasium for your personal instruction).
